In the age of Obama we still don’t live in a post racial society. The idea of a post-racial society in which race is no longer significant or important is still a dream for most of us. In today’s society, racism still exists in forms ranging from racial discrimination and hatred to dating, sex, and job equality. For about the past five decades, music has been a way to break racial barriers. A visual can be interpreted in so many ways. I love when an artist uses their creative ideas to film a visual.
Singer Lana Del Rey fired up the Internet, yesterday, Wednesday (June 27) when she released her “National Anthem” visual starring A$AP Rocky. According to NecoleBitchie, “In the video, Lana takes on the role as JFK’s mistress Marilyn Monroe who sings ‘Happy Birthday’ to the president. As the video continues, she plays Jackie O, while A$AP takes on the role as amodern-dayJohn F. Kennedy. The 7 minute video details their time together all the way up until that fateful day in Dallas when JFK was shot.”
After reviewing this visual a few times, it is my opinion that they are trying to make a statement about interracial dating and how it made people uncomfortable and was indeed controversial during that. What most may not know is that certain jurisdictions, including the United States banned interracial marriage prior to a 1967 Supreme Court decision that deemed anti- miscegenation laws unconstitutional. After the Supreme Court decision, many states legalized interracial marriage in the United States. Watch the visual below and tell me what you think about it.
These raspberry Yves Saint Laurent high top python sneakers feature a pull tab, black suede padding at the heel, white rubber sole with textured foxing at the toe and heel, black lace-up closure and logo tag at the tongue. They’re available at SSENSE for $895. I’m not too impressed with them but they’re workable with a $325 YSL logo tee-shirt in burgundy with grey cotton jersey and the matching $550 YSL python leather gold buckle burgundy belt; similar to what Meek Mill wore back in January.
Rapper/singer and fashionista Teyana Taylor was recently spotted making a fashion statement in Air Jordan XII ‘Playoffs’ paired with Adidas Track Pants and a $28 Rocksmith Explicit Scatter Tank Top. Taylor’s style is a one of a kind! She’s been dope back when she was just a 14-year-old girl riding bikes and skating in Harlem. I’m so glad that Kanye West signed her to his G.O.O.D. Music label. Now she has a chance to showcase her talents to the world. Taylor’s G.O.O.D. Music debut is due later this year. Don’t forget to download her EP This Misunderstanding OfTeyanaTaylor.
DJ Greg Street recently dropped a new track called “Slick” from G.O.O.D. Music rapper CyHi The Prynce. This track goes hard! The ATLien got real slick with his wordplay and punchlines on this banger. Cruel Summer compilation arrives August 7. Listen to “Slick” below:

The other night Philly’s own Meek Mill was denied entry into Meatpacking District club Tenjune in NYC because of the recent club brawl between Drake and Chris Brown. Some clubs in NYC have been apprehensive about who they allow entry, especially rappers. Below is how Page Sixis reporting it:
“Meek Mill is now unwelcome at some New York nightclubs after being caught up in the June 14 brawl at W.i.P. in SoHo between Chris Brown and Drake that left several clubgoers injured. The Philly-born rapper was partying with Drake’s camp at the hot spot when the fight broke out between entourages that sent liquor bottles flying. Early yesterday, Mill was turned away from Meatpacking District club Tenjune after rolling up at about 2 a.m. And he even eagerly posted word of his arrival at the swanky spot on Twitter. But the bouncers didn’t seem to share his zeal for getting inside. Mill tweeted after he was denied by the doormen: “I don’t got no love for these clubs that discriminate against a certain race! [Bleep] you . . . u won’t get these racks!” (For our slang-impaired readers, “racks” means “money,” in thousands.) After Mill left, observers told us that police showed up at the venue because of an unrelated incident, but left within minutes. A Tenjune rep had no comment on the incident.”
