2012 Olympians and record breaking female sport players Gabby Douglas, Carmelita Jeter, Allyson Felix and Sanya Richards-Ross are covering Ebony Magazine’s2012 Women Of The Year Issue. All four ladies broke records and became a part of history in their sports.
Gabby Douglas is an American artistic gymnast. As a member of the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team at the 2012 Summer Olympics, she won gold medals in both the individual and team all-around competitions. Douglas is the first woman of color and the first African-American gymnast in Olympic history to become the individual all-around champion, and the first American gymnast to win gold in both the individual all-around and team competitions at the same Olympics. She was also a member of the gold-winning U.S. team at the 2011 World Championships.
Carmelita Jeter’s website dubs her “the fastest woman in the world.” This year, she became the only female athlete to medal in both the 100 meter and 200 meter races in this year’s Games, winning silver and bronze, respectively.
Allyson Felix boasts the title of most decorated female track athlete at this year’s Olympics. She won 3 gold medals; 1 individual in the 200 meter race, 1 with her teammates including Carmelita in the 4×100 meter race, and one with Sanya and others for the 4×400 meter race. With her 3 golds, it was the most golds for a female track athlete since 1988.
Sanya Richards-Ross won 2 golds in London, 1 in the 400 meter race, and 1 with teammates, including Allyson, in the 4×400 meter relay. Sanya is recognized as one of the most decorated female track athletes ever. She won gold in the 4×400 relay in 2004, 2008, and 2012. After leading the world in the event for the past couple of years, Sanya became the first American woman in 28 years to win the 400 meter dash in the Olympic Games.

Last night Sunday (November 4), the new season of Real House Wives Of Atlanta premiered on Bravo. I did see some of it and I enjoyed what I have seen. It is my opinion to say that Kim was a little jealous of Kandi when she gave her a tour of her new mansion. Model and Pageant Queen Kenya Moore made her memorable RHOA debut and she was so lovable. Is she on her way to becoming this season’s favorite and most standout reality star? Kenya recently chatted with The YBF about on why she joined the show, how she makes a living and how she hopes her appearance on RHOA will change the perceptions of women. Below are some excerpts:
On how she hopes her appearance on “RHOA” will change perceptions of women:
There are a few women on the show who endeavor to uplift and help our community- not tear it down as sometimes portrayed. I’m hoping my presence will raise the bar and show a unmitigated side to what it is like being over 40, Black, single and looking for lasting love all while trying to maintain a career, my dignity and self worth at the same time- AND not settle. I don’t have it all. I hope a lot of women will be able to identify with my personal struggle. With that said, we are all real women and it’s as real as it gets on season 5 of RHOA. It’s not always peaches and cream. No pun intended .
On how she makes a living and if she has a man:
I’ve been a business owner and entrepreneur for more than 25 years and have worked since I was 14 years old. I am a hard worker and fighter from Detroit and I’ve fought for everything I have, including my crown, and am very proud of my achievements. I am an accomplished producer, author, writer, actor, astute businesswoman and I’m educated. So therefore, I’m not a literal housewife. This season of RHOA is extremely enlightening and sheds a candid light on my personal life-which I’ve never done before. There is a man and you will meet him soon enough on the show.
On why she joined “RHOA”:
My motivation was the desire to change my lack of success in my personal life. The show was an opportunity to take a risk to do something I’ve never done before and step outside of my comfort zone. Additionally, the stability of being on a show affords me time to focus on having a family as it is part of my journey. There are also several charities close to my heart that I endow on the show and hope others will support. It will be evident why they are so important to me once the season airs.
