Don Bleek’s Exclusive: K. Foxx Calls Angela Yee An Insecure ‘Dry Statue’!!!

angelayeekfoxx

Angela Yee (left) and K. Foxx (right)

The on-screen tension between Hot 97′s own K. FOXX and Power 105.1′s ANGELA YEE on VH1′s newest reality series, The Gossip Game is undeniable. The two radio personalities have been battling since the series premiered, and there doesn’t appear to be an end to their brewing differences in sight. Recently, I interviewed K. FOXX for Juicy magazine to get her stance on a number of things including rise from humble beginnings, how she managed to work her way through the male dominated radio industry and issues with her on-screen nemesis, ANGELA YEE.

Juicy: After doing radio in Miami for years, what brought you back to NYC?

KF: It’s not like I had to go seeking for it. It kind of came to me. Ebro called me up and said, ‘we have an opportunity for you to be on air for a week and then we will make a decision.’  I was like, ‘okay.’  It came to me at a time when I was really seeking something more in my career, and then I got the phone call.

Juicy:  Angela Yee has said numerous times that the difference between you and her, what may be the reason for tension, is that she is an equal with the male co-hosts on her morning show, and claims you are not. How did you feel about those comments?

KF: I think she’s just trying to throw jabs at me. Me, Ciph and Rosenberg all add something to the show. I am the female on the show, I come out with different ideas. [Ciph and Rosenberg]  come up with comedy skits and other things.  [Angela's] show [Power 105’s ‘Breakfast Club’] is drier – it’s watered down. We’re more creative. We come up with skits, and we’re intellectual as well. As far as what she says,  I think that’s all her insecurities showing.

Juicy: So then what is the biggest difference between you and Angela Yee?

KF: I am colorful, she’s black and white. I live my life in color. I dream in color, that’s actually the name of my organization for kids. There are so many colors in my life that make me who I am. You can tell by the way that I talk, dress, and how I carry myself. When you look at her, it’s like a statue, a very dry statue.

Juicy: Do you think Angela’s jealous of you and all your ‘color’?

KF: I have no idea.

Juicy: Are these the type of situations that make it harder being a female in the radio industry?

KF: I think that it is hard being in the radio industry period! But when you are a female, you have to work extra hard not only because it’s a boys club, but people are always going to test you. It’s more challenging, but I think I do a pretty good job at maneuvering past those things.

Juicy: What else can viewers expect from you this season on ”The Gossip Game”?

KF: I don’t want to come across as “the angry Black woman” that’s always defending myself. You’re going to learn more about K. Foxx separate from the radio. You’re going to know what my challenges are besides what I do on the radio. You’re going to see my everyday life, my everyday activities. I think it’s good for people to see different sides of me.

Be sure to catch K. FOXX on VH1′s The Gossip Game Monday’s at 9pm.

This interview is also posted on Juicy’s site here!

Lamar Odom’s Ex & Kids Mother Liza Morales Chats About “Cookies & Kardashians”

starterswives9

Two weeks ago, I sat down with NBA player Lamar Odom’s ex-girlfriend/kid mother, Liza Morales at the Inc Lounge at The Time Hotel for the NYC premiere screening of the reality show, Starters Wives Confidential which airs tonight Tuesday (February 5th) on TLC. Liza Morales and Lamar Odom have three children together. While grieving the death of their youngest and silently watching the whirlwind romance of her ex play out in the tabloids, Liza is stepping out of the shadows and finding her voice.

How have you been since breaking up with your ex-boyfriend and kids father Lamar Odom?

I’ve learned a lot from Lamar, we grew up together in a sense. I learned a lot of life lessons and I don’t regret it.  I am better now. I’m still young; I am only 33-year-old and I’ve learned a lot and now I can pass it forward and share my story with those girls.

I heard that Lamar is the only man who you been with in your entire life, is there’s any truth to that?

Lamar is the only man I’ve ever been with. I know the worth of my cookies.

How is your relationship with Lamar now?

I feel like it can always be better. I try my best to be cordial, it’s a constant job and it is very important and deep down he does too.

On the first episode, you mentioned that it was kind of hard for you to walk pass newsstands and see Lamar on the tabloids with Khloe Kardashian, why was that so hard for you in beginning?

In the beginning it was hard, because this was my ex whom I’ve known for 15 years when he got married, so it was hard. Prior to him marrying Khloe, he was never on a tabloid. He was on SLAM or Sport Illustrated, so it was different for me in the beginning but now I am kind of used to it. If I’m in the nail salon and the girl to my right and the girl to my left are reading a tabloid with the Kardashian’s on it, I will definitely go for Elle Magazine, Vibe or the non-tabloid. I don’t really want to know.

What is your relationship like with Khloe?

We don’t really have one, but we are cordial. I met her and I thought that it was very important for us to meet because she is going to be around my kids. I have no problems and as long as my kids are treated well, I’m good with her.

What can we expect from you this season on Starters Wives Confidential?

I’m just being me, I am not an actress. I’m just being myself; I don’t know [laugh]. Y’all have to watch the show.

If you haven’t already read my exclusive interview with Starter Wives Confidential cast member Tashera Simmons, read it here.

A$AP Rocky Speaks On Tyler The Creator Diss, His Next Single, Dating Teyana Taylor, Touring With Rihanna & Fashion

asaprocky20

RCA Records rapper A$AP Rocky is enjoying his success! He released his debut album, entitled Long.Live.A$AP which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. He also took the Hip-Hop fashion movement to another level and now he is gearing up to embark on a world tour with Rihanna this Spring 2013. Jay-Z’s Life & Times  caught up with the Harlem native for an exclusive interview. He talked about Tyler the Creator diss, his next single, dating Teyana Taylor, touring with Rihanna, fashion and more. Below are some highlights:

When the single “Fuckin’ Problems” was released, Tyler, The Creator took to Twitter and said “So funny when someone releases a new song with the same four people that we expected to be on it with the same shitty “Trap” beat Hahaha.” What did you think of that?

He has his opinions and he’s entitled to them, so it’s whatever. Hell no, I’m not tripping over what Tyler, The Creator said. I’m Jiggy.

Have you decided on the next single yet?

Yeah, maybe “Wild For The Night” with Skrillex. I wanna do something with that. Maybe “Fashion Killa.”

On collaborating with fellow Harlem artists like Teyana Taylor and Azealia Banks.

I used to date Teyana. She’s my ex. And A$AP AV used to date Azealia. But yeah I don’t know because I think people expect that. People expect us to work together and I want to do the unexpected. There’s 16 tracks on the album, eight are solo and eight are features. But they’re organic. It fits for me. That’s the only reason why I did them. I didn’t want to do something that made it feel like I was forcing it. I didn’t want to compromise or settle, I just wanted everything to be organic. That’s why I worked with the people I respected creatively. I want to collaborate with Jessie Ware. That’s going to happen. Also MGMT. I’d love to work with Adele.

You’re touring with Rihanna later this year, any special plans for that?

To have fun. I forgot about that one! I’m actually excited about it. Like that’s going to be some rockstar shit, don’t you think? I just want to do my A$AP Rocky thing and go there and have some fuckin’ fun!

Are you always looking for the next big thing in fashion?

Yeah. I mean I brought back the Air Force Ones with the straps. Now you see them on runways and in magazines. It’s funny. People like Dior, now have girls in Dior tops and Air Force Ones on their feet. That shit’s crazy. I wouldn’t want to do my own clothing line, but I’d like to collaborate with some designers. That would be dope. I have a lot of ideas.

What’s the plan next in regards to the rest of the A$AP Mob?

Well, A$AP Ferg is up next. You’ll be seeing a lot from him next.

Fabolous Speaks On His New LP, ‘Loso’s Way 2′, Reality TV, Current State of NY Hip-Hop, Congrats A$AP Rocky & More

fabolous5

Last week, Def Jam rapper Fabolous released his new track, “Ready” Ft. Chris Brown which is the lead single off his forthcoming LP, Loso’s Way 2: Rise To Power. The album is scheduled to arrive later this year. Billboard’s The Juice caught up with the Brooklyn rapper, and Loso discussed the current state of NY Hip-Hop, his new album and said that he is 80-85% done with it, named some of the collaborations on the project and congrats A$AP Rocky. Before Loso ended his interview, he shared his not so good feelings about reality TV. Below are some highlights:

Before “Ready,” you released your “So N.Y.” anthem. There’s been a lot of talk about New York hip-hop and artists, both new and OGs, that have kept the city alive. What are your thoughts about the current state of N.Y. hip-hop and how you fit in it?
I think it’s always going to be a place for it. Of course, it’s not as prominent as it was in the past but that’s the change in music. Whether you’re from the South, West, East, or wherever, a lot of the music is sounding the same. Different artists rap over different beats but a lot of the artists are sounding the same. I think that’s where New York lost its leverage.

I think there’s always going to be artists that continue to put their stamp on the game, though. Congrats to A$AP Rocky. I think it’s great how he created a lane for himself. It may not sound like the typical 90s-2000s N.Y. music, but he’s still from here. He made N.Y. fit his style of music. There’s a change in the generation between the old and what’s going on now. You can’t make music for what people want N.Y. to be. You’ve got to make what you want. I think between him, French Montana and others, you’re going to hear different kinds of music coming from N.Y. It shows the diversity.

How far along are you “Loso’s Way 2?”
I’d say it’s 80-85% done. I’d even give some of that 15% to working daily until I’ve got to turn it in. You may come with a record that’s urgent, that has to be on that project, the day before you turn in.

What are some of the songs or collaborations you’re excited about?
I’ve worked with a lot of guys. I’m not even sure which songs are going to make it or not yet. But I’ve worked with Chris Brown, of course. I got Rick Ross, John Legend, Future, Ne-Yo, Trey Songz, Young Jeezy, Chrisette Michelle. I’m just thinking of names off the top. I’m still working on piecing it together and making it sonically fit. I even got a text today and was speaking to Nas about doing something as well.

Wow. Talk about New York hip-hop. That would be crazy for the city.
Definitely. We haven’t worked together yet so I’d love to make that happen. We’re gonna pull it together.

You spoke about a record you having coming out about VH1′s “Love & Hip-Hop” show..
It’s not just about the show. It’s more about my situation and my views on reality TV. I just used that name because that show has been associated with my situation.

I think in hip-hop, reality TV has become just as important of a promotional tool as the radio. Something that once was thought of as gimmicky, is becoming more mainstream and accepted amongst artists.
I still think it’s gimmicky. You using a gimmick to sell what you’re trying to sell. In certain places, people are exposing or exploiting a lot of stuff. To each his own, but it’s not my cup of tea. I don’t choose to entertain with my personal life. I’d rather entertain with my music. I’m cool with my personal life being personal. Certain people don’t feel that way. They feel they can control it and show what they want to show. It’s not what I’m about. I can’t say I’d never do it because if I could control it and it was done the right way it could possibly happen. But as far as making a “For The Love of Loso,” nah.

Interview: Carmelo Anthony Speaks On His Watch Collection, Style, Fashion Advice & More

Carmelo-Anthony-Super-Andrea-Francis-Havana-Eyeglasses-1

Carmelo Anthony is a beast on the court and off the court, this New York Knicks forward is a fashion icon. It is my opinion to say that Melo along with LeBron James are the best dressed players in the NBA. The 6″8 baller has a style that is unique and stands out. While in London for his game at the 02 Arena against the Detroit PistonsBritish Esquire got the chance to talk to Melo about his new wristwear-inspired M9 sneakers, fashion, style advice and much more. Below are some excerpts:

Carmelo-Anthony-Burberry-Prorsum-Trench-Coat-Green-Spring-2011

I have a bunch of timepieces. I love collecting watches – ever since I could start affording them. I could never afford watches, but now I take time to educate myself and learn about them.

With the M9 I was just trying to do something different around this time. My love for watches and the movement of watches, I really wanted to see if I could incorporate that into a shoe design. It came out well. It exceeded my expectations.

My advice for taller guys? It’s tough! Stay away from the rack. You’ll be trying too hard [to find clothes] if you’re shopping at the rack. Try and find things that are comfortable for you.

Growing up, my style was completely different. Even my first couple of years in the NBA, it was always jeans and Timberlands, T-shirts.

I like to get out and see what’s out there. Go to boutique shops, try to mess around and play around with different brands and different styles of clothes. It’s not so much about shopping at the big brand name stores, it’s about finding things that you can connect with.

Anything can be fashionable to any one person. I don’t think you should look at somebody else and say “I want to wear this because somebody else was wearing it.”

Pusha T Speaks On His Upcoming Projects, Grammy Nod & Labeled Andre 3000 As His Favorite Rapper At The Moment

pusha-t1

Rapper Pusha T is gearing up to drop his debut solo album, My Name Is My Name but before that project hit stores and iTunes, the G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam rapper will drop his free mixtape, Wrath Of Caine, which arrives soon. It is my opinion to say, “Lyrically, Pusha is a beast! I think he is so underrated.” King Push recently talked to Village Voice about his upcoming projects, Grammy nomination and his favorite rapper at the moment. Below are some highlights:

So the mixtape is called Wrath of Caine and the album is My Name Is My Name?
Yeah, that’s right. The [mixtape] is from a play on words from my favorite record by Big Daddy Kane. I felt the title was a brief description of what people know me for. My Name is My Name is a reference to Marlo from The Wire. I felt like I was coming under a lot of scrutiny about my content. At least it felt that way because of social media and things. I just feel like, man, my name is Pusha. You should know what you’re going to get from me by now. This has been my brand of rap for a very long time.

So obviously drug dealer fly shit will be overlying themes on both projects.
Well yeah, but I like to think my music has a lot of perspective too even though people might not think so. More than anything it’s about showcasing who I am. Even in [Clipse] I was more the brash young, unapologetic rapper. That may vary slightly, but it’s still me. I still want to keep all my Clipse fans engaged. I think the different perspectives is what my brother bought to the table.

What are some producers you work with who give ‘Ye and Pharrell a run for their money?
I think P and ‘Ye are two of the greats, but I do feel like there are certain producers who I can go to for hot peer of what they do. NoID is one of them. He can give you the purest level of hip-hop and still be current. Every aspect of true Hip Hop will be incorporated into a beat and it will still sound fresh and new. I feel like Nottz is a sample king. We have a crazy record together. Just Blaze gives you the cinematic joint. He gives you the climax of the movie every time. Some wouldn’t consider them super producers but I do.

Plus you’re a Grammy nominated artist now. What’s that feel like? Do you place importance on it or nah?
I guess it’s fresh. It’d be fresher if I was nominated for my own song (laughs). Nah I’ve never been apart of something like this so I’m happy to be a part of it. It’s something… It’s great for G.O.O.D. Music.

So who’s your favorite rapper right now at this exact moment?
Favorite rapper? Jay-Z. No wait. I take that back. Andre 3000 is my favorite rapper right now.

A$AP Rocky Talks To The New York Times About His Style, Fashion & Favorite Shopping Stores

pixel

asaprocky20

We’re just a few days away from the release of A$AP Rocky’s debut solo album, Long.Live.A$AP which arrives next Tuesday (January 15). I heard that the album is really dope and has a lot of great productions on it. I like Rocky’s music, and I like his style even more. We all know by now that this Harlemite is sick and trendy when it comes to fashion. The New York Times recently interviewed this RCA recording artist and he discussed his style, favorite designers, where he like to shop at and much more. Below are some highlights:

WHAT I’M WEARING NOW: The shirt is Raf Simons. I love him. He’s probably the most influential designer I have ever followed. Not only that, but he listens to my music. He listened to my music before we met. The pants are Alexander Wang, given to me free 99. My shoes are a special kind of Timberland and have a weird texture. The whole idea is for them to be rugged, so I’m trying to wear them more often so they get beat up.

STYLE CREDO: Trill meets high-end fashion. I’m really going for Belgian designers right now. You know, Jil Sander, Raf Simons, Ann Demeulemeester. That’s my whole thing right there. And British designers like Christopher Shannon, KTZ and Mr. Hare.

FAVORITE STORES: Oak, Opening Ceremony, Barneys, Ina, Tokio 7, Y-3, BAPE, A.P.C., Acne.

ON DIAMONDS: I have a few diamonds, but its corny, like I’m the Man. The reason those rapper dudes have all of those diamonds is to compensate for having no fashion sense.

ON THOSE WHO HATE MY STYLE: It’s almost like school. I’m an honor-roll student, and they’re dropouts.

WHO ELSE IS COOL: Pharrell. Cudi. Skrillex. My boy Schoolboy Q is cool. Kendrick. Drake. I love everybody.

He’s Back! Juelz Santana Talks About Taking A Breaking From & Returning To Music, ‘God Will’n’ & Dipset

juelz9

I am so happy that rapper Juelz Santana is making a return to his music roots. It has been over seven years since Juelz last dropped an official solo album. What The Game’s Been Missing! was released via Def Jam in 2005 and sold over 500,000 copies worldwide which was good enough to earn him a gold plaque from the RIAA. His new mixtape, God Will’n  arrives next Monday (January 14). The Harlem native legal issues and bumps in the road caused him to have a few setbacks and missed some really good opportunities including his anticipated, I Can’t Feel My Face collaboration mixtape with Lil Wayne. Village Voice caught up with Juelz for an exclusive interview. Below are some highlights.

You decided not to release music while you going through some issues. Do you think that was wise?
Well, I took some downtime but I didn’t stay away from my fans until it was like, “What the fuck? Where the fuck did he go and where the fuck did he just come from?” My presence was still felt even though I was out there like that.

So you named the mixtape God Willin’. Why’d you chose that as a title?
God Willin… it just came to me and it felt good, it felt right. After I announced the title people hit me on Twitter, reminding me that Clipse first album was called Lord Willlin’.Honestly though the title just came to me. I didn’t even think of that album. It just came to me. Originally it was going to be called Reagan Era and Kendrick Lamar got a song with that title but I been screaming “Reagan Era” for years. Or like Jay naming his album The Blueprint after KRS had an album by that title. It’s all good at the end of the day.

What’s different this time around?
I’m gonna treat the situations like I’m a new artist. I’m just hungry again. God Willin is just gonna be the start of a new chapter. I got a new label situation called Anything’s Possible. But it’s still Dipset, Skull Gang. I’m still on Def Jam. I already got the second mixtape done after God Willin where I’ll be rapping over other people’s beats but we’re just going to talk about God Willin for now. I’m just happy to be back in business. I want to enjoy working and go hard and be where I need to be. Right where some of these niggas ain’t supposed to be. I’m still lookin better than a lot of niggas who just dropped albums though. They looking lost out here. It’s time to follow the leader again.

You mentioned being where you need to be or feel where you belong. Do you regret the time taken off? True you stayed somewhat visible but it did impede your momentum, no?
The time off was definitely a long time. I know people are looking like “Damn.” I wasted time that I can’t get back and I blame only myself. And I said it’s where I belong because hard work beats talent. Niggas outworked me so that’s why they’re where they are but they ain’t got my talent. So it’s time to just get right back into working. And right now it feels perfect. It just feels right. Besides, there’s always room for a real nigga.

True. So when can we get another song with you, Cam and Jimmy on it?
We’re working on making it that happen. I’m with whatever. We’ve been talking about things. It was always more than music with us so we all just have to get back into that space. But again, I feel like the time is just perfect right now. This is the time for everything.

A$AP Rocky Speaks On Being A Legit Rapper & His Debut Album, ‘Long.Live.A$AP’

aap-rocky-in-bapestas

His success came overnight and it couldn’t have come any faster. Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky had a great year in 2012 and made a major contribution to Hip-Hop culture. This fashionable kid who sports a Soho upscale style kept the blogospheres on fire with his Houston inspired music, dope visuals, and fashionable outfits. He also grew as an artist over the last year which helped improved his interviewing skills and we also saw less temper tantrums and rants from Rocky in 2012. In 2013, he still has a lot of growing to do as a music artist, business man and fashion stylist. This Spring 2013Rocky will be opening up for Rihanna on her upcoming worldwide tour. He recently interviewed with Pitchfork , where he talked about his music and debut album Long.Live.A$AP which arrives a week from today Tuesday (January 15). Below are some highlights:

There are a lot of people who claim that you’re all flash and fashion– that you’re just a pretty boy and not a legitimate rapper. How do you call me just a swag rapper? When I started, I was 23 years old directing my own music videos; I’m co-producing on my album; I’m hands-on with everything. I’m more than just a pretty boy: I’m an artist. I’m not saying I’m a hip-hop music artist, I’m an artiste.

Skrillex is probably the most surprising name on Long.Live.A$AP. How did that song, “Wild for the Night”, happen? My relationship with Sonny [Moore, aka Skrillex] is funny. We’re friends. He and I started out together, believe it or not. The guy who shot the video for “Purple Swag” was his personal cameraman, and he would show me Skrillex’s shit. I was like, “Yo, why does this dude have this weird-ass haircut? What does he do?” This was before he got big. We’ve hung out a lot– we used to go to a lot of clubs. You wouldn’t take me to be a Skrillex fan, but honestly, when I’m at his shows, I get high and liquored up, and I just go in the crowd and start raving.

On the other end of the spectrum, the album also features production from Danger Mouse on “Phoenix”. I used to bag up drugs with vanilla candles in my room and bump Gnarls Barkley. St. Elsewhere was good, but The Odd Couple was really my shit. Some of my favorite songs were “Who’s Gonna Save My Soul”, “Charity Case”, and “No Time Soon”. When I reached out, Danger Mouse accepted my hand and acted like a big brother.

On the album, you’ve kept a lot of your signatures– the pitched-down vocals, the Houston and Memphis references– but you’ve also moved away from that on some songs, too. I didn’t necessarily move away, but why do it so much? I don’t do anything too much. When shit gets overdone, I step away. Givenchy is so overdone right now. So many rappers are wearing it. All they know is Kanye and A$AP and Jay-Z and all those motherfuckers wear it, so it’s the thing to do. So I don’t fuck with Givenchy right now. If I was to do that vocal pitch thing too much, I would get tired of it and be mad at myself.

When you were first getting attention, a lot of people looked to you as a potentially important New York rapper. What’s your relationship to New York been like in the last year? I’m from New York and I love New York and I’m always repping New York, but what I represent is something deeper than just being a New York rapper. I want to be the first guy to help people accept everybody for who they are. I’m talking about colors, religions, sex, everybody. My music is for everybody, it’s not just for one kind of group. I’m a people’s person, believe it or not. I just have a dark side to me, which we all do. But at the same time, there’s a lot of light, and that’s why God is letting me shine, because I’ve got a good heart. We really need to make this shit a new revolution. All of the young people– the artsy people, people who get overlooked because they’re weird or they don’t have hype around them– need to get some shine. I want to inspire people to really open up their minds and not be one-sided or biased or hypocritical or… I just want to change people, because the world is a fucked-up place and a lot of people gave up on trying to change it.

K. Mitchelle Speaks On Regrets, Singing As A Child, Her Parents Being Supportive & Lessons Learned In The Industry

Kontrol_ObjectsOfDesire-63

Some people know K. Mitchelle from her music but most people know her as that outspoken singer from Love & Hip: Atlanta. Before the industry, this Memphis born singer received a degree in Psychology from Florida A&M University and she’s glad that she has her degree to fall back on. A few years ago, K. Michelle was signed to Jive Records and was engaged to a former music executive who worked at that label (I will no longer mention him on my blog because he has a few lawsuits against some people). K. Mitchelle mentioned on numerous occasions, that she was abused and involved in a domestic violence dispute throughout her relationship with that former music executive which caused her to part ways with Jive Records. However, she shared her story to the world and kept her music first. Now, she is back with a major label. She recently signed a deal with Warner Bros. Records. Below are some highlights from her interview with Kontrol.

On if she has any regrets:

“I don’t have a lot of regrets,” says K. Michelle, “…especially when it comes to my music.”

On singing as a kid:

“I always used to walk around the house singing when I was a little girl, and they used to tell me to shut up! (laughs).”

On her parents being supportive in her music career:

“They always knew I was gonna do something with music.”

On lessons learned in this industry and keeping the music first:

“There’s a lot of things you can overcome and a lot of different things you will go through in the business, but there’s nothing more important than the music.”
