Some people know K. Mitchelle from her music but most people know her as that outspoken singer from Love & Hip: Atlanta. Before the industry, this Memphis born singer received a degree in Psychology from Florida A&M University and she’s glad that she has her degree to fall back on. A few years ago, K. Michelle was signed to Jive Records and was engaged to a former music executive who worked at that label (I will no longer mention him on my blog because he has a few lawsuits against some people). K. Mitchelle mentioned on numerous occasions, that she was abused and involved in a domestic violence dispute throughout her relationship with that former music executive which caused her to part ways with Jive Records. However, she shared her story to the world and kept her music first. Now, she is back with a major label. She recently signed a deal with Warner Bros. Records. Below are some highlights from her interview with Kontrol.
On if she has any regrets:
“I don’t have a lot of regrets,” says K. Michelle, “…especially when it comes to my music.”
On singing as a kid:
“I always used to walk around the house singing when I was a little girl, and they used to tell me to shut up! (laughs).”
On her parents being supportive in her music career:
“They always knew I was gonna do something with music.”
On lessons learned in this industry and keeping the music first:
“There’s a lot of things you can overcome and a lot of different things you will go through in the business, but there’s nothing more important than the music.”
