What’s Really Beef: Jay-Z & Kanye West Not Seeing Eye-To-Eye & Feuding Over ‘Watch The Throne’

According to an article published in the NY Post/Page Six music mogul Jay-Z and rapper Kanye West aren’t seeing eye-to-eye and are feuding over their upcoming tour. Below is how NY Post is reporting the story:

A battle royal has broken out behind the scenes of Jay-Z and Kanye West‘s new album, “Watch the Throne.”

Sources say the rappers — who call themselves The Throne and are releasing their expected blockbuster collaboration Aug. 8 on iTunes and four days later everywhere else — are barely speaking to each other as they iron out the details of their upcoming tour.

Live Nation’s presale event on Thursday was delayed, but tickets for the tour are slated to go on sale today, with shows at the IZOD Center Sept. 27 and 28.

The sources say West wants flashy concerts with “next-level production,” which would cost more than $400,000 per show. Jay-Z is said to be meticulous about costs and already has a larger, long-term advance from Live Nation that he has to pay back.

“Jay-Z can’t deal with Kanye,” an insider told Page Six. “Jay is a stone-cold businessman. He wants to recoup all of his money from Live Nation. But Kanye wants to upstage rock stars with a blowout show. He doesn’t care about costs. He has a lot less to gain from the shows.”

West is expected to agree to the conditions of the tour next week, but the business brouhaha between the powerhouse artists might have affected their backstage relationship.

Industry insiders were shocked to see West and Jay-Z perform separately with Young Jeezy last Monday night at the Highline Ballroom. “We were expecting them to come out together to perform a track from the album,” a source said. “They didn’t even go out together after the show.”

“Jay-Z is fed up with West’s antics,” another source said. “He doesn’t even want to be around him.” However, the two are expected to perform together at a listening party tonight at The Rose Planetarium in Central Park, according to The Post’s Dan Aquilante. A Live Nation rep said, “No comment.” The rappers’ reps didn’t get back to us.

Live Performance: Jay-Z And Kanye West Performs H.A.M. In Texas

A few months ago, I reported that VEVO presented G.O.O.D. Music in concert; at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. The event took place at the Seaholm Power Plant. The show lasted for over three hours. The most surprising moment of the evening was when Kanye brought out Jay-Z for “H.A.M.” Jay-Z stormed on stage to rap his verses. VEVO has premiered the footage of Kanye West and Jay-Z performing “H.A.M,” which is rumored to be the lead single off their forthcoming LP Watch The Throne. More footage from the show will be released later today. Watch the footage below:

It’s Coming: Jay-Z Held Listening Session For ‘Watch The Throne’ & Starts New Solo LP

According to Billboard.Com, last night Thursday (July 7) Jay-Z held a private listening session for Watch the Throne, a collaborative album with his little brother Kanye West. Below is how Billboard is reporting the story:

The listening was held in a suite on the second floor of the Mercer Hotel, in SoHo, and lasted for roughly three hours, with Jay-Z playing eleven songs from an Apple laptop for a select group of music journalists and two teenage fans who had won access to the session for being the first two customers to pre-order the album through Jay-Z’s lifestyle site, Life and Times, which began accepting pre-orders on Monday, July 4. Kanye West did not attend.

Following the eleventh song, Jay-Z invited those in the room to have an informal conversation that lasted for about an hour.

We can have a conversation,” he said. “I don’t want to do an interview. Put your pads away – we can talk all night.”

DON BLEEK SPEAKING: Jay-Z is now two songs in on his next solo album.

I know exactly the tone and the whole feel of the [next] album. Its different. It’s not weird. They are really f**king good. I can tell you that. I never had two songs this early before my [current] project came out.” Hova

Jay-Z also stated that Odd Future singer Frank Ocean would appear on one of the two new songs he’s completed.
