Smart Way To Sign Your Deal: French Montana Reveals He’s The First Artist On Bad Boy To Keep His Publishing

Most artists in the music industry do not own their publishing. Luckily Bad Boy newly signed rapper French Montana is one of the few artists who own his publishing and he is also the first artist in the history of Bad Boy Entertainment to keep his entire publishing. In a recent interview with Real Talk, the Bronx native said he had his bases covered when it came to negotiating his contract.

I find it kind of weird; how can somebody jerk you and they give you the paperwork for your lawyer to see,” said Montana. “It’s not like they tricking you. It’s not like them words get up in the middle of the night and change on the contract. You just gotta get the best lawyers. Of course Puff going to have the best lawyers. So you need to get the best lawyers and make sure it works for you.”

“I think I’m the first person, and I ain’t tell this to nobody, only y’all, I’m the first person in the whole history of Bad Boy not to sign my publishing to Bad Boy or Puff,” added Montana. “Ya know, everything I asked for Puff kept his word.”

I think this was a smart move on the behalf of Montana and I truly believe he will do good over at Diddy’s label. Watch Montana’s interview below:

Behind Her Shades: Amber Rose Talks Rapping & Her Dream Collaborations

Earlier this month, South Philly socialite Amber Rose debut single “Fame” premiered on the Interweb. Believe it or not, some critics are actually feeling the track and even said that Rose has a chance at pursuing a music career. I personally think the song is cool. On the uptempo/pop tune track, Rose expresses the way she was scrutinized when she first came into the industry, paparazzi harassing her to get flicks and her journey to becoming an overnight sensation. Rose also sings about the ups and the downs of the glamorous life such as being flown around the world in private jets and shopping for exclusive bags. VIBE caught up with Rose while she was in New York City. She talked about her first single, rapping and dream collaborations. Below are some excerpts:

On Her First Single:
“It’s so perfect and I didn’t know that was actually gonna be my first single but I was just like I’ll put “Fame” out for free. It’s not gonna be on iTunes or anything like that. It’s just for the fans to understand a little bit more of my life and you know there’s a lot of young kids or people in general that want to be famous but they don’t really know what that entails.  That’s why I put out “Fame.”
On Rapping:
“Yea. I definitely rap and I sing and my music is fun. It’s all dance music. I have an inspirational song that’s really dope. I have some records that are just plain fun, like you just want to party, jump around and go crazy to. “
Dream Collabos:

“I would really, really love to do a song with Pitbull and LMFAO. They’re probably like my two favorites. I’ve always loved Timbaland as well.”
